About Us
Taghmon Family Resource Centre provides supports to all families and individuals living in the community of Taghmon by building local capacity and leadership and bringing about positive change
Our method of working is to provide Family Support through Community Development. Our work is person centred, holistic and supports the whole family and community.
Background
Taghmon Family Resource Centre (FRC) is in operation since November 2008 and is situated in what was the former Church of Ireland School in Joseph Street. It took over sole occupancy of the building in June 2010. The project consists of the premises on Joseph Street and the Men’s Shed premises two doors down, which is also used for training and education purposes. It includes the garden which is used to support the local Tidy Towns initiative. It is funded by TUSLA the Child and Family Agency as part of the Family Resource Centre Programme. The FRC is a Limited Company managed by local people.
Although situated in a large village, the project would have a wide catchment area comprising of 9 Electoral Divisions, which is very rural, and in total would consist of 1,800 households.
Our main (core) funding comes from TUSLA through the FRC Section, which covers running costs, excluding programmes. Our programme funding is sourced separately through small grants from various agencies and trusts such as: WLD, WWETB, St Vincent de Paul, Mercy Solidarity Trust etc.
How We Work
- The project works to a three year Strategic Plan that is underpinned by a community consultation and outreach process.
- The project then develops an Annual Action Plan that is linked to the 5 national outcomes for Children.
- The project is also working with the local and county TUSLA structures and CSC sub-groups.
- Our work is premised on voluntary participation and offering universal supports to families with some targeted interventions. (Hardiker model Level 1 and 2).
